MICHAEL FLETCHER
?
Growing up in Athens, I saw that the most successful people were involved in real estate.  I also learned from my father that being self-employed was more likely to offer the kind of lifestyle I wanted.  When I graduated from OU in 1980, an old friend invited me to work with him, and I became an appraiser for next 18 years, during the S&L crises of the ‘80s  and ‘90s.  I worked with large and small appraisal firms and over 50 MAI appraisers.  I served as the region chief appraiser for Chase Bank Arizona during the S&L Crises and became a general certified real estate appraiser in Arizona and Ohio.

In 1995, I had the gift of returning to Athens and spent 12 years as a financial planner helping OU employees and teachers, representing VALIC, ING and New England-METLIFE. I even spent a couple of years as an EMT,  rounding out my career with other jobs that gave me a unique perspective: recruiter, headhunter, job placement specialist, sales person and telemarketer.  There were some rough times, but it was a fruitful and often fun journey.

I took the classes for my sales license 3 different times in my career, but timing is sometimes everything. Finally, in 2012 I found the right time to apply for licensing and become a Realtor.

I am a real estate generalist. My experience gives me a broader perspective, depth of knowledge, and greater variety of experience than most agents aren’t able to obtain.  I'm no longer writing appraisals or financial plans, but that training helps me to better serve clients as a Realtor.  I enjoy getting to know and meet new people, and I find a great deal of satisfaction in the service-based nature of the real estate profession.

With 5 kids, I count family as my other major focus of activity outside of work.  Scouting and church have continued to be a big part of my life, also, and that is true for my four sons, too.  My son Cory also got his real-estate license and works alongside me in this journey. My daughter became a competitive Irish Dancer and now a nurse.  My wife went back to teaching at Hocking College and now teaches at OU.  You will often find the extended Fletcher clan out around the campfire, hanging out in my tipi, clowning around, maybe singing a powwow song or otherwise enjoying some Irish family culture.
